Storing shampoo bars is an easy, three step process that you can do after a washing session. Follow this tutorial to learn how you can store your shampoo bar.
Shampoo bars are solid bars of soap that are used specifically to wash hair. Shampoo bars can be purchased online or locally; I purchase mine from Chagrin Valley Soap, a family-owned company that specializes in shampoo bars made with natural ingredients for natural hair and kinky hair. To learn how to select your own and how to wash your hair with a shampoo bar, read my post Everything You Need To Know About Shampoo Bars.
Preparing Your Shampoo Bar for Use
Before washing your hair, cut your shampoo bar with scissors into 6-8 large pieces. Depending on the size of shampoo bar, you should be able to cut the bar into 8 large pieces. Select one piece of soap for washing and store the others in an air tight container to ensure freshness. Use your selected piece of soap to wash your hair.
Storing Your Shampoo Bar After Washing
Follow these steps to store your shampoo bar for future washes.
Step 1: Rinse the piece of shampoo bar and remove any shed hair from its surface. Dry it with a clean cloth.
Step 2: Place piece of shampoo bar into a zip-lock plastic baggie. Drop 6-8 drops of tea tree essential oil onto the bar. This will help the bar maintain ani-fungal and anti-bacteria properties. Seal the baggie.
Step 3: Use a fork to poke holes into the baggie, so that a small amount of air can be allowed into the baggie.
